District DEI Team Draft Report Considers Gifted Program Changes

In a draft report of the District's DEI Team Report obtained by DarienParents.org, an area of focus is the lack of African American student diversity within the IDEA Program. A proposal to rectify this includes reviewing "gifted identification criteria and address potential biases that exist within the process." Given that nearby areas have dropped Gifted and Talented Programs in their schools because they allegedly exacerbate racial divides, what does this mean for the future of Darien's Gifted Program? Will identification criteria be reduced for specific, underrepresented groups? Or will the program's future be reconsidered to increase Equity within DPS?
