Why it’s inappropriate: An autobiographical comic by Maia Kobabe, this book contains graphic depictions of oral sex, tasting "vagina slime," first use of vibrators, and self-harm. After concerns were raised about the content of this book, on November 18, 2022, the District Curriculum Team issued a letter that stated the book would remain in the DHS Library. An excerpt from this letter:
"The District Curriculum Team determined this book will remain in the Darien High School Library. While the Team agrees that a small number of the images in the book are sexually explicit, the book’s merits outweigh these concerns. Keeping this text in circulation supports larger District goals related to the Strategic Plan and the Vision of the Graduate. Having representative texts offers diverse materials, relatable texts, and most importantly, realizes the District vision of preparing all students today to thrive in a changing world tomorrow."
